Caleb has long held a fascination with money-he loves earning it, spending it, and even collecting it (via a coin collection). One morning last week I observed Caleb going through his change bucket. Believing he was counting his money to purchase a coveted item, I asked Caleb what he was doing.
Caleb: “I’m getting my money together so I can take it to school”.
Me: “What for?”
Caleb: “My school has a money jar in the library you can put your money in. The money jar is to help people find a cure for the disease the boy at my school has”.
I was touched beyond words that Caleb decided to donate his own money to help a little boy in need. Later that week, the school sent home a flier stating they were raising money to fight Cystic Fibrosis, a disease a fifth grade student at their school is currently battling.
