I'm learning...life goes by fast, taking risks is essential, no one is perfect, and in the end it's completely worth it.

Seriously
I would like to thank the person who "reported one of my blogs as hate or other". You know what? If you don't like it, then don't read it. Period.

Randomness Continued....
1. If I could not express myself through writing/blogging, I would suffocate (creatively speaking).
2. I loathe attending sports practices....I wish I didn't but alas I do.
3. Lola truly is a pig (in absolutely every sense of the word).
4. I believe evolution and spiritually are all encompassing. With that said, if you completely throw evolution out the window, we probably shouldn't be friends. Seriously.
5. Caleb once again received straight A's....while I am smart, I was never that smart so in that sense, I have only his father to thank.
6. I was told today that sometimes I am "too smart for my own good". You know what? That's probably true yet I am strangely okay with that.
7. I once had beautiful handwriting, alas, typing has all but destroyed that particular talent (although on the other hand, I am an excellent typist).
8. UK has finally (gasp) made it to the Final Four. We last "won it all" in 1998 when I was a freshman in college--and just for the record--it was awesome to be a part of it (especially as a student on campus at that time).
9. My favorite food currently is shrimp cocktail...thankfully it's low in fat.
10. I am a walking set of contradictions- simply ask anyone that knows me well. I demand attention yet I don't want to be smothered. I like feeling someone is taking care of me but only to the point it's pampering and not enabling.
11. I am the first to acknowledge that I am a far cry from perfection.
12. Fact: I love animals more than most humans.
13. Although I attempt to honor/respect all people's religious views, I find it quite extraordinary that some people continue to believe in an "immaculate conception". I mean....really?
14. I will never be a master chef or for that matter a fabulous cook, but in a pinch, I can pull it off :)
15. I may never lose those last 10 pounds...still, I do the best I can. Making peace with that is harder than most likely realize.
16. I will never be in my twenties again (at least not in this lifetime) but on the other hand, I have no desire to be (so no double edged sword there).

Miscellaneous
According to Caleb, you are not "old" until you reach the age of thirty-five. Thanks babe-I still have a couple of more years before I am considered "old".
While driving in my car (in route to meet Caleb's Nana this morning) I saw the following(HUGE) sign: WRESTLING SATURDAY 7:30 PM. Seriously? There are no words....do I really live here? And more importantly, are people actually going to attend this event?
I did not get to watch the UK game last night due to my insomnia from the night before (even clothes pins could not have prevented my eyelids from closing). I am super pissed I missed it- great game and we actually beat the team (Ohio State) who was favored to win it all. With that said, I will not be missing tomorrow night's game at 5 PM...so insomnia beware.
How is it possible the weather has turned from a warm 80 degrees to a cold 38 degrees in less than 48 hours? Need further proof that it's cold? When I turned on the heat this morning Max (one of our hairless cats) sat directly on top of the vent in the bathroom and would probably crawl down inside of said vent if given the opportunity. With that said, I firmly believe Lola's tantrum from the other day (please see previous blogs) is directly related to the drastic change in weather.
I am attending a baby shower for one of my best friend's later this afternoon...and not to brag or anything but I think I may have bought the cutest items ever. The shower is a "tea party", however, the host and I have already concocted a plan to replace our tea with adult beverages.
While searching for a completely different item this morning, I finally discovered Caleb's missing birth certificate...alas, lesson learned- do not hide things for safe keeping if you cannot later remember the hiding place.
I already loved Lady GaGa's newest song ("Born this Way") but after really listening to the lyrics this morning I now love it even more.

Quote of the Day
Preface:
This morning Caleb and his friend from next door were discussing their current favorite toys. Caleb responded by saying he really likes collecting and building Lego models, while his friend (consequently a female) stated she likes "My Little Ponies". Overhearing their conversation I remarked that I too, liked "My Little Ponies" when I was a little girl.
Caleb: (In all seriousness says) "You mean they had those that long ago"?
Thanks Caleb :)

Movie Date Night
Caleb and I went to the movies together this afternoon to watch "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" (Part II). Side note- the books are fantastic and I highly recommend them for children as well as parents. While the sequel was even better than the original, I must admit that the person who plays the character of "Roderick" (AKA Greg's older brother) is downright hot. Drums and eyeliner? Bring it ;) Mommy's everywhere...this is one I highly recommend.
Dear Botox and Such Part II
Dear Botox, etc.-
While I adore your results I must admit that up until today I have had headaches and facial pain (please note it's been one week since said injections). Alas, the bruise on the right side of my lip is finally fading (again, the injections were one week ago and although I bruise easily, a bruise that last for more than a week does seem excessive to me). With that said, I would and will do it all again. See you again in 4 months Botox.
XOXOOXOXOXO,
S

Dear Friday-
I have missed you greatly. You have my sincere gratitude in treating me kindly today after I received a mere four hours of restless sleep last night. I am in your debt.
Sincerely Yours,

Dear Lola-
Thank you for leaving the house intact today...honestly I don't think I could have handled it had I arrived home and discovered differently.

Random Thought of the Day...
Despite the explosive media surrounding it's initial release, REM's song "Losing My Religion" was in fact not actually about religion at all (according to the band). Regardless of the band's explanation, listeners drew their own conclusions (which in my opinion were quite the opposite of what the lyrics actually suggested/represented). Furthermore, to add to the irony of the situation, I was in the sixth grade attending a Catholic school at the time of the band's release and instantly fell in love with the song. Want to think about that?

Lola
"Sometimes I am my own worst enemy"-lyric from the band Third Eye Blind
When I arrived home this evening it appeared that WW III hit my home. Apparently, Lola declared war on the house while I was away. Upon return from work, it became apparent Lola was clearly upset over something and acting out. To summarize: end tables and other furniture was overturned, pee pads (soiled no doubt) were shredded to pieces, four blankets were soiled, and pig droppings (AKA urine and feces) was visible in both the living room and kitchen. Lola, what message are you trying to send? Clearly you are upset and trying to demonstrate as such. My ideal way of ending my ever increasing hectic work day is NOT spending 45 minutes cleaning/mopping/doing laundry, etc. because you are unhappy. Any insight on your part would be greatly appreciated on my end.
Sincerely,
S

Random Part One Million and Two and Counting...
1. I accidentally flashed everyone in the lobby at work today as I was walking outdoors to my car- I was wearing a dress and it was extremely windy. FML.
2. Regardless of the day of the week I nearly always wake up between 6 and 7 AM (although if it's the weekend I'll likely take a nap later in the day).
3. I am not a vegetarian but I am not much of a meat eater...it just doesn't appeal to me.
4. I love to drink sugar free Redbull (even though research indicates all energy drinks are dangerous if not downright poisonous).
5. I am in love with "Animal" from the Muppets.
6. Reading my Psychopathology book makes me feel more normal. I am not sure whether I should find this alarming or not.
7. I am a sucker for 80's movies and documentaries involving time travel, etc. (think Stephen Hawking).
8. I am addicted to tattoos and want at least two more.
9. I wish I was able to have a nose piercing again (alas, my job does not permit this).
10. I still haven't figured myself out yet even though I am 32 years old. Normal? Maybe, maybe not.
11. I really enjoy working with brain injury clients which is surprising to me because initially I thought I'd feel differently.
12. I dreamed Lola was "hog-zilla" last night so she appeared very small in stature when I came downstairs this morning.
13. I frequently have dreams in which my teeth either fall out or I am in school and have missed multiple classes and am unprepared for the exam. I hate both of these dreams.
14. Gas prices are outrageous...let's go "green" already. Seriously, do we really want our future grandchildren to inherit a filthy uninhabitable planet?
15. My hair is finally very long again and I couldn't be more happy about that.
16. I don't know which I despise more- removing eye make up each day or plucking my eyebrows.
17. The new season of True Blood cannot come soon enough and it had better follow along with the novel series --SPOILER ALERT--(AKA Erik and Sookie hooking up).
18. Despite the above statement I still love William Compton.
19. At present, I have never worked so hard professionally in my entire life-yet I feel it's worth it.
20. I may wear black nail polish until the day I die.
21. My left hand (fingers and feet) are slightly smaller than my right-normal? Maybe, maybe not.
22. I nearly always dread going to the gym but always feel better afterwards.
23. Fact: my new job has resulted in at least a 5 pound weight loss and counting (no complaints there).
24. I am very anxious my coworker/office mate will soon be leaving and I will be flying solo (at least temporarily).
25. The local weather station just predicted possible snow this weekend...if this happens, I may permanently move.
26. I freely admit I am a perfectionist and a Type A personality to the T :-)
27. I love watching true crime shows (particularly the Investigative Discovery channel).
28. I also love watching unsolved true life mysteries such as "Disappeared".
29. I love my son dearly but will never have more children. Period.
30. I do not understand social workers who do not vote Democrat given the NASW Code of Ethics (no judgment- just curious). Regardless I have many friends and coworkers who are not Democrat and I respect and love them all dearly.

Botox and Such
Dear Botox-
You're fabulous (in case you didn't already know). Juvaderm-you're fabulous as well but what is up with the bruising? Seriously-twice today (despite concealer) I've had two people tell me I have a smudge/mark on my face. Must you make me look like a domestic violence victim?
Eternally grateful,
S

Dear mommy-
Today it actually made it to an uncharacteristically high of 80 degrees. Please tell Caleb how thankful I am he cleaned and refilled my swimming pool yesterday (now you don't have to chase after me with the swifter wet jet).
PS-I am so happy corn has been restocked at our local Wal-mart-but what's the deal with the recent carrot shortage?
Yours,
Lola ^_^

Bad Parenting?
Dear powers that be-
Am I a bad parent because I pray for rain each time it's my turn to take Caleb to baseball practice? Surely I am not the only parent who performs a rain dance in the hopes of practice cancellation.
Sincerely,
S

Wonders never cease...
Dear Margaret (and Board),
You have my sincere gratitude in finally approving my LCSW contract. I must admit my faith was shaken initially but it turns out that sometimes the third time really is a charm.

Taking the plunge (well sort of)...
I admit it-I cannot imagine why anyone would feel the need to deny it- but I received Botox and Juvaderm (filler) for the first time today. The prices were reasonable and the customer service/staff were excellent. Pain was minimal (for the Botox) but a bit painful with regard to the Juvaderm filler (though not intolerable). With that said, I am pleased with the results thus far (however results wont be fully visible until Tuesday) and I plan on continuing with maintenance follow ups (as needed). I in no way consider myself vain (well maybe just a bit) but I do believe that taking preventative (and early) measures to prevent wrinkles is completely justified (for those who prefer to slow the aging process cosmetically). In no way is my goal to try and achieve celebrity/super model status...I do not want Mick Jagger lips nor Joan River results....I simply want a natural, youthful appearance. I am thankful for the medical breakthroughs for those who would like to (at least slightly) slow down Mother Nature :).

Excerpts from Lola
Dear Mommy-
It's 77 degrees outside today! Can you believe it? I have really enjoyed playing in the backyard today. I really appreciate the fact you changed the water in my swimming pool this afternoon. I know you did your best to clean out the muddy residue from the previous water, however; some of it stayed behind and resulted in me getting muddy (again). I am really sorry. At least we have new batteries for the Swifter Wet Jet.
Always,
Lola ^_^

Clarification
In my previous blog (with regard to the sexual abuse allegations regarding a Catholic priest in Owensboro, KY) I would like to make the following clarifications:
1. Yes, unfortunately many children are molested every day by parents, caregivers, priests, family friends, neighbors, etc.- my intention was never to accuse only Catholic priests or bad mouth Catholicism in general. Rather, my point was to reiterate the fact that any person that holds a position of power (such as a priest, teacher, boss, etc.) can and sometimes does abuse their position of power (in some cases resulting in the molestation of children)and when/if an allegation is made, it warrants an objective investigation.
2. I am not "targeting easy individuals" accused of molestation-rather I am simply trying to point out that persons who have power over others have a certain responsibility and obligation to act in an appropriate manner and if accused of inappropriate behaviors and/or acts, be subjected to a fair and objective investigation.
3. I am in no way persecuting or labeling Catholics in general...if anything I am simply stating I no longer agree or affiliate myself with that faith. For those who do, that's fine and for those who do not, fine. My intention is not to judge but rather share my opinion (which for the record is my opinion only). I do believe in spirituality but feel organized religion is corrupt and incorrect. This is my opinion and my opinion only. I believe in reincarnation and many other "non-mainstream" ideas.....I will respect your beliefs if you will in turn simply respect mine. Agreeing on the issue is not relevant...what is relevant is respecting the ideas and opinions of others.

World issues
"I'm in love with the world through the eyes of a girl."-Source unknown
My heart hurts for Japan. Not only was their country hit with a catastrophic earthquake but it was then followed by a devastating Tsunami. To further complicate their horrific predicament, Japan is now facing not only one but multiple possibilities of a nuclear reactor meltdown. Apparently, the agency behind some of the nuclear plants in Japan have been less than forthcoming with information about the realities of the situation. I sincerely pray for each and every Japanese citizen. I hope they will (along with all others) not only escape this tragedy but that the world will also learn from it.

Dear mommy-
I was so excited this morning when you (in your clearly sleep deprived state) accidentally fed the cats my food and fed me their food. I don't think I've ever tasted anything so good. I am sorry I fought you when (after realizing the food mix up) you tried to take my food pan away from me. I guess I just love cat food-perhaps you should try it-you don't know what you're missing.
Always,

Soapbox
"This week starts Lent and for the 35th year in a row I'm giving up Catholicism"-Bill Maher
I would not even begin to broach this subject had I not been raised Catholic and attended Catholic school for numerous years. With that said, I in no way consider myself to be a Catholic at this time. I am not only outraged but also horrified with regard to the suicide that occurred in Owensboro, KY a few weeks ago at Blessed Mother Church. Not only did this bright, attractive, and promising young man commit suicide but he also left a detailed note (on his facebook page) on what prompted his suicide. To summarize, this poor person was subjected to years of sexual abuse within the Catholic church (at the hands of trusted priests)whom all failed to recognize or at the very least take action-including his own family. I was sickened to read the Owensboro newspaper response from the church following the suicide which basically stated that the priest in question was not only one of their most popular and well liked priest but that no investigation would be conducted. Regardless of your place of employment, if someone makes a legitimate complaint, it needs to be investigated fully. Once again, I am disgusted at those whose main attempt is to simply close their eyes, turn the other way, and push things under the rug. Seriously, God have mercy on their souls (as clearly they are going to need it).
Things I've Learned...
1. Retirement and insurance actually do matter (though it seems insignificant when you're young).
2. Good friends are hard to come by- don't let them go easily.
3. Pigs (even mini pot belly pigs) are more work than you think (trust me-I know this from experience).
4. Alcohol can temporarily eradicate your problems but in the end they still exist and must be dealt with.
5. Sadly there are dishonest, manipulative people out there- be-warned and beware.
6. Nursing homes in general suck and euthanasia should (in my opinion) not only be an option but a humane alternative (please watch the movie "You Don't Know Jack" before making an informed decision).
7. The DS 3-D is overpriced. Period.
8. Margaret (in Frankfort) may hate me but I truly believe I will ultimately succeed (with regards to obtaining my LCSW supervision).
9. Life is unpredictable and any attempts to try and control it are futile (much to my OCD chagrin).
10. Your choices as an adult can be permanent so choose wisely.
11. Avoid tanning beds at all costs- they're the devil in disguise- you're better off starting up a botox savings fund.

Random Part One Million and Counting...
1. My favorite songs right now are "F*ck You" by Cee Lo Green and "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga (go figure).
2. Had I known my sister Erica and her boyfriend would be living in Louisville, I would have purchased tickets to the Lady Gaga concert in Louisville this past weekend.
3. I feel only slightly guilty that I prayed for rain today and it actually happened simply because I didn't want to sit through 2 hours of Caleb's ball practice.
4. I have neglected blogging lately because my new job is kicking my tail but I love it and the salary raise is a HUGE perk.
5. Although I love "springing forward" due to Daylight Savings Time, it totally messes with my mind and body (apparently I am not the only one as statistics state more accidents occur following the week of "springing forward or falling back" one hour each time the clocks change).
6. I am convinced my animals purposely wait for my arrival home to try and destroy the house. Sadly, I am beginning to be okay with this.
7. Although I care nothing for "American Idol" the few episodes I've watched this season have resulted in me worshiping Steven Tyler even more than I previously did.
8. I (and apparently the rest of the world) think Charlie Sheen has truly lost it. I mean, tiger blood? Seriously?
9. My number one way to deal with stress? Organize and clean, thus resulting in OCD like behavior (just ask my coworkers and closest friends).
10. I actually sang Karaoke on the night of my last day of work at my former job....thankfully no one recorded my rendition of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby". (Seriously, how do I even remember the lyrics after all these years?!)
11. Biggest turnoff (regardless of gender?) Those who brag and are self-absorbed.
12. My favorite flowers are red roses and white magnolias.
13. I've gotten lost approximately every single day at my new job- that place is enormous and after the beginning of week 4 I have only begun to figure out the first floor (alas there are three floors and counting as they are building on a massive new portion...sigh).
14. I despise dishonesty. I also hate "not knowing"-good or bad, just give it to me straight and don't make me wait.
15. Caleb wants a DS 3-D (available this month). Chances are it wont happen as the going rate is $360.00. I mean seriously....
16. I wake up at least once a night...sometimes it's when I have my greatest ideas/inspirations while other times it's simply annoying.
17. Now that I am immersed in medical social work, I have a lot to talk about to the facility my grandmother (who has Alzheimers) once I return to visit her.
18. I hate to iron and at all cost attempt to buy things that require zero ironing and zero dry cleaning. I attribute this to the fact I had to iron my school uniform every day during my entire high school career.
19. I admire those who are direct but do so in a manner which is both sensitive, kind, and humorous.
20. Chalk it up to the Libra in me but I am extremely jealous and competitive.
21. I'm thrilled my sister Amanda moved back to Manhatten...upper East side-well, I am all about it.
22. My life long debilitating quality is a tendency towards self-sabotage....hey I'm working on it.
23. Sometimes I wonder if I love animals more than people- they are faithful, trusting, and love you unconditionally.
24. I am more psyched for the beginning of season 4 of "True Blood" to start than is likely considered "normal".
25. I've tried attending various church services....alas, I feel like a fraud....organized religion simply is not for me.

Excerpts from Lola
Dear Mommy-
I was so happy I got to play outside this past weekend. I played in the dirt and nearly dug out a hole for Izzie so she can climb under the fence whenever she wants to. In fact, I thought it was so warm that after playing in the dirt I decided to jump into my swimming pool (which actually had water in it due to all of the rain we've had recently). I'm really sorry that after jumping into my pool I became really muddy and left muddy pig prints all over your kitchen. Perhaps you should consider changing my pool water (as it is now dark brown from all of the mud). I noticed on your FB page you have a picture of a pig wearing boots...perhaps this is something we can look into since I refuse to let you clean my hooves whenever they become muddy and you are then forced to chase me around the downstairs area with the Swifter Wet Jet mop. Again, I am really sorry about all of the mud (on both Saturday and Sunday).
Yours,
Lola ^_^
