1. That sometimes being alone is far better than being with someone just for the sake of companionship.
2. That you can only live a lie or fake it for so long before you begin to not only compromise yourself but also who you are as a person.
3. That living alone isn't easy but until you do it, you are incapable of knowing how strong you truly are.
4. That despite good intentions, some people will always lie, manipulate, and take advantage.
5. That despite others opinions, it really is therapeutic to cry, vent and rage if/when necessary.
6. That it takes years to establish and build a good reputation but only seconds to tear it all down.
7. That it really is okay to ask for help whenever you need it...after all, no one is "super human".
8. That sometimes the best things in life come along when you least expect it.
9. That it is okay to love, feel, act, etc. with whole hearted passion no matter the outcome or consequences...and that if in fact you don't, that may be the biggest mistake you ever make.
10. That no one said life would be easy, only that it would be worth it.
I'm learning...life goes by fast, taking risks is essential, no one is perfect, and in the end it's completely worth it.

Story of the Day
Caleb recently attended a birthday party and part of his goody bag included a "fart" prank bag. Not wanting him to set it off inside of our house, he took it outdoors and had our local neighbor open said goody as he was having difficulty opening it.
Unfortunately my neighbor accidentally opened it (in his own dog's face no less) and his garage and dog now smell like raw sewage ;-)

Story of the Week
Preface:
I have a good friend who is friends with a person from another country. After meeting me he asked her the following:
"Is your friend a mullet?"
Taken aback she asked, "what do you mean is Shanna a mullet?"
As it turns out he was trying to ask her if I was biracial (and in his country that would be called "mulatto".)
With that said I am not biracial and will never sport a mullet hair style ;-)

Trust me...I am well aware...
It's been a while since I've blogged and in an effort to catch everyone up (and not have to recap recent events repeatedly) I am simply going to give a brief rundown on the latest:
1. I am getting divorced. Yep, it's official- I get an "F" in marriage 101.
2. I love Caleb more than anything in this world and regardless of our recent (and major) life changes, will do everything I can to protect and love him.
3. Inevitably I will be asked a million times as to why I am getting a divorce so here it is in a simplified version: fundamentally Matt and I want different things, we are different people, we cannot meet each other's (very different) needs, we've tried really hard for the last year and a half to make it work but it simply didn't. There is not any major event and/or thing that led to this, rather, it's a cumulative combination of many, many things.
4. Yes, I will be remaining in Nicholasville.
5. I still love my job at Cardinal Hill but admit I am getting desperate for a second social worker to come on board. And I really, really miss working with Meredith. REALLY.
6. I have the greatest most supportive family in the world who love and support me even when they don't understand me or agree with the decisions I make.
7. I am blessed to have an extremely supportive ex husband and former in-laws- their support and love for Caleb is amazing.
8. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful people I love and are there for me each and every time I need them.
9. Divorce (or breaking up in any relationship for that matter) is never easy, but I sincerely believe each person(even if they cannot see it now) will be happier in the long run (with regards to my current situation).
10. Now (more than ever), I realize how important it is to live and be your true authentic self. You aren't doing yourself or anyone else any favors by living a lie or being too afraid to admit what your needs, beliefs, and values are even if it means something else has to end in order for you to be true to yourself. Life lessons are painful but inevitably necessary, healthy, and in the end make us better human beings.
