4 Years

It’s October 25th….a mere two days until the four year anniversary of losing Matthew (the day of the funeral). Naturally I sobbed uncontrollably this past Sunday…it still hurts. While time does heal wounds, it does not eradicate the memories. Baby Matthew, I’ll always love you to the moon and back.

Insomnia

Dear Insomnia-

Why do you occasionally stalk me? Have I offended you in some unknown manner? If so, I apologize profusely. When you raid my nights I pay dearly for it the day after. Can we come to some sort of compromise?

Sincerely,

S

Boys

Dear boys-

Please leave me alone.

Sincerely,

S

Trick or Treat

Given the season, here are a list of my favorite scary movies…granted the more they are based on a “true story” the more likely I am to be frightened by them….I will begin with childhood horrors and work my way up….

As a child, I was beyond terrified of the movie, “The Twighlight Zone”- particularly the scene with Dan Akroyd and John Lithgow….for years I literally could not set foot on an airplane. Why my mother allowed me to watch this at age 10 is beyond me (the only logical explanation- it was rated PG- as this was before PG 13 ratings *blush showing my age* and she simply knew no better). I swear I could not look in a mirror for days (at night without cringing).

“Candy man”- holy ($#$*#)$*#($)#(*$)#*! I was scared beyond reason….to this day, cannot go into bathroom with lights off and say the name three times in a row- ridiculous I know but still.

“Poltergeist- the original- Okay mom and dad- you caused serious harm with this one….I accidentally walked in on the swimming pool scene in which all the graves were being opened all the while my dad had on Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”….traumatized for years. His album with nothing I can describe as less than the green b*tt with legs and high heels…very traumatic when you’re five years old and see zombies crawling out of the ground.

“Stigmata”- though the movie itself is not believed to be true, I 100% believe in this phenomenon.

“The Moth man Prophesies”- now while the movie is frightening, the book is downright terrifying (and includes many details in which the movie excludes). I’ve watched countless documentaries, etc. I may be crazy but I totally believe in him.

“The Amityville Horror”- seriously if a family is so frightened they leave in the middle of the night and leave ALL their things behind never to return for them then there was some serious stuff going down.

“The Exorcism of Emily Rose”- supposedly based on a true story….scares me to death every time yet I will inevitably watch it every year.

"Damion" series...jacked up.

Now some of my favorite, not to be terrified movies include, “The Lost Boys”, “Flat liners”, “Nightmare on Elm Street series”, “Halloween series”, "Rosemary's Baby", "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle", "The Others", etc.

Perplexing yet thought provoking....

1. People who sport mullets in this day and age(seriously, 1980 is calling and it’s wants this trend back)

2. People who pull out in front of you then drive significantly under the speed limit. Seriously I do not care if you pull out in front of me as long as you actually drive at or preferably above the speed limit

3. Where the heck has fall gone…it’s freezing outside?!

4. Rudeness…I mean is your life really that bad that it’s necessary to treat others horribly?

5. People who never follow through, are undependable, and irresponsible are one of my biggest pet peeves-seriously, don’t promise or commit if you know that you will inevitably back out.

6. What the heck I am going to do now that it’s freezing outside with regards to working out…do I really want to rejoin the gym (and although my ex husband and I are on friendly terms, he does go there all the time)

7. My child is so incredibly obsessed with Angry Birds he insists on wearing the T-shirts every day to school. Luckily we have purchased several but today is picture day at school and his obsession led to a compromise- he can wear the Angry Birds to school but then must change into the appropriate attire for his picture then change back…geez.

8. I have owned an I phone for many years and despite numerous (albeit unintentional of course) abuse towards it, the face broke when I dropped it a mere two feet off the ground- I mean, really?

9. I am most creative when things in my life are in turmoil…is this what they mean by the saying “tortured artist”?

10. I am a self admitted costume jewelry fanatic…vintage simply is my thing…guess I must have once lived in the 1920’s/1930’s. Flappers, costume jewelry, you name it, I am a complete sucker.

11. I envy my mother’s decorative skills- she has turned our house into a truly beautiful home and I thank her.

12. I loathe having dreams about the world ending- not because I am afraid of death but because I am inevitably left behind in these dreams to try and salvage what’s left of it.

13. I am infatuated with my child but in 8 years, I am leaving KY….I quite simply (and have been told unequivocally/repeatedly I do not belong here).
14. I was born in the wrong era. Period.

15. I shouldn’t have but did purchase the CUTEST swirly twirly coat….resistance was futile (and yes, it has a vintage look/feel to it).

16. I’m still sad sometimes but I am stronger everyday. I thank all powers that be that I am finally over Jerry. Finally….a miracle given I never thought this would occur.

17. I firmly believe we grow more from our mistakes and errors than we do from our accomplishments.

18. I sincerely thank all those that tried to lure me to Owensboro and Louisville this weekend (sorry Ryan- Happy, happy birthday) but I am still not 100% well. I feel certain you guys will have a blast regardless.

In the City....

There are many days I can strongly relate to the character Carrie Bradshaw. The most obvious characteristic is our penchant for writing (only she was fortunately paid to do it whereas thus far, I am not). Carrie and her three fabulous friends were forever getting into relationship fiasco's (well I guess technically "Samantha" was simply crawling into every one's beds). How in this day and age, can an educated, attractive, decent female have such a complicated time finding a decent, attractive male? One who isn't commitment shy or sprinting to get to the alter. Seriously (in my wise mother's opinion) if you have never been married or in a serious adult relationship by the time you are in your mid thirties (and no high school and college do not count) then something is flawed (AKA run- do not attempt to fix/change it). Where are all of "normal", non-married, successful, men? Perhaps my friend Mia is correct- I am simply at an age when most people are getting married for the first time....according to her, give it 5-7 years and they will all be getting divorced and suddenly available (and beating down my door :)

Halloween

Feeling a bit nostalgic....this time last year I was preparing to be "Lorena" from the series "True Blood" with my former coworkers. All should note, I adore my new coworkers and desperately miss my old ones...still I am wistful for the "True Blood" extravaganza planning as of last year.

NYC

Today I met a lovely family originally from New York that relocated to Kentucky in recent years. I have a passionate love affair with the New York accent-don't get me wrong, I quite fancy foreign accents (particularly Australian and British), however nothing makes my heart swoon more than a man with a NYC accent. Sigh...
P.S. NYC I love you

Things about me....300 million and counting...

1. I've continued to shrink and shrink (yes people/friends I know you already think I'm too thin) but this recent break-up will likely only further contribute to this trend. Truth be told I cannot say I object as having "Kardashian" curves has to be monitored ;) (AKA constant running/walking in park)

2. I think I would be drowning without my family and friends right now. I thank each and every one of you from the depths of my heart.

3. During the last month, I've had two tattoos completed (one of which is on FB and covered up a former boyfriend's initials- a mistake I will never make again- can you say "kiss of death"?) and second a tat across my ribs which boldly states KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. Consequently, the tattoo artist and I are now on a first name basis.

4. I also have a new piercing but I'm not disclosing where.

5. I love my job, who I work with, and what I do. I am humbled everyday that I have the distinct privilege in being able to help others.

6. My hair is nearly to my elbows. Don't worry, I will not cut it all off this time (hence given the slightest desire, I read my previous "Rapunzel" blog post)in which (silly I know) grieve over the inches of hair I cut off at that time.

7. When I give my heart to someone I expect them to treasure and protect it as if it were their own. Failure to do so equates into you losing me forever.

8. I always love Fridays (seriously who doesn't?)but especially love Fridays that fall on a pay day (hence today).

9. Turning 33 really does not feel any older than 32. Really. Seriously (and in no way is my intent to sound vain) but between working out, botox, etc. I actually look better as I've become older.

10. Fall is here! Hello orchards, Halloween, tall boots, leggings, floppy hats, etc.!

11. UK basketball is finally making it's debut! Big Blue Madness is tonight! Thanks heavens because UK football this year has been disasterous.

12. I want to go to NYC!

When the bottom falls out (over and over again)....

Fell hard, fell fast. Unfortunately my heart was broken again. With that said, I will survive-it's what I do best. I think I am destined for either a life of being single or Lesbianism ;-)

Inexplicably falling....and at that, falling hard.

Story of the Week

Preface: Caleb and I were recently standing in line at Subway. Caleb subsequently began to describe to me that his Nana (who resides in Danville) has a special Subway card that collects points and after so many points you get a free sandwich, etc..

Me: "Oh- you're talking about a Subway rewards card. They have those at every Subway (as Caleb was under the impression this phenomenon only existed at the Danville Subway)."

Caleb: "Do you have one?"

Me: "No, but whenever I was a teenager I went to Subway all the time and had a card".

Caleb: "You mean they had Subway's that LONG ago?"
