Retro

Recently I heard a song on the radio that instantaneously transported me back to the summer before my senior year in high school. Each summer night, as we primped about in eager anticipation of going out that evening, my cousin Brandy and I would listen to my dad’s old records. Despite the new, glossy CD/stereo system sitting beside it, we opted for the ancient, dusty record player each time. Carefully slipping the old records out of their thin crinkled covers, we gently set down the needle and began to sing along. Listening to The Beatles was a regular summer night staple-a necessary step when applying our makeup and carefully selecting our outfits. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album enthralled us each time as we magically morphed into “Billie Jean” herself. Rejecting the current music on the airwaves, we opted for the classic, old artists who set the tone for our summer nights out...
